Got a Question?

Human foetuses develop fully in the womb for roughly 38 weeks (266 days). Based on this 38-week gestation period, your due date is the day you should give birth. However, keep in mind that a pregnancy is considered full-term if it is between 37 and 42 weeks long by healthcare workers..

The date of your baby’s birth is calculated using a pregnancy calculator. It provides a rough date to help you plan for the big day.

Enter the first day of your last menstrual period and the typical duration of your cycle into the pregnancy calculator to determine your due date. The due date is determined by adding the first day of your previous period with 280 days, or 40 weeks (if it is a 28-day cycle). The first two weeks of pregnancy are marked by menstruation and ovulation. If you give birth on the due day, your baby will be 38 weeks old instead of 40.

It’s possible that you’ll be informed that your due date is different from what you anticipated. In reality, up to 26% of people have their due dates modified during their pregnancy.

As your pregnancy progresses, your doctor will consider a number of criteria to ensure that your due date remains accurate. They will consider the following variables while determining the accuracy of your due date:

1. When did the doctor first hear the baby’s heartbeat, and what device did they use?

2. Fundal height: Depending on your projected due date, the fundus (top of the uterus) may measure differently than planned.

3. Quickening: When did you notice the baby move for the first time?

Other factors that affect the estimate of your due date include the discovery of a twin pregnancy, uterine abnormality, and your weight.
