5 Great energy booster tips for new parents

Parenthood is difficult. Parenthood is tiring. Parenthood is exhausting.
Post birth, every mom is emotionally and physically drained. Include sleepless nights, crazy hormones, breastfeeding into this and what you get is one helluva tired mother!

Taking care of the needs of a tiny human 24/7 can take a toll on every parent’s health. Yet again, this is a very important time for every mother (and, father) to take care of themselves. They need to ensure they have their energy recharged every so often. Only if they are fit and healthy, can they take good care of their little munchkin. For single parents, this is extremely important. All responsibilities are on them, and even if they receive help from family members, at the end of the day, it’s all on them.

Every parent will get wiped out during this time and to combat this, parents need to work a little smarter. Below are some ways to provide yourself with a shot of energy boost when sleeping out the tiredness isn’t just possible.

Soak up some sun:

Let’s be honest, it’s not possible to always go off to sleep whenever the baby sleeps, try as we might. But what you can do, every time the baby sleeps off (during the day, of course) is go out and soak up some sun. Go to your balcony or if someone is available at home, then go out for a quick stroll in the morning. The sun is an instant energy booster and will help you overcome your sleepiness.

Eat, drink and be merry:

Eat a healthy well-balanced meal to give your body the energy it requires. Skipping meals will get you nowhere. Do not break your head about dieting or calories, just eat good food. That includes healthy snacks as well. And, don’t forget to stay hydrated. Drink lots of juices, coconut water, milk shakes or milk and plenty of water, throughout the day. Move your body baby:

: Indulge in some light exercises or yoga or even regular walks. We know you already have enough running around going on taking care of your baby, but practice some mindful exercises to relax your body. This moving of your body is different from what you need to do rest of the day. Spending one hour everyday on some form of lightweight exercise will put you in a happy mood all day long.

The magic of aromatherapy:

There are essential oils available which can help destress you and invigorate you. Invest in an essential oil diffuser and select some soothing fragrances which will act like instant shots of energy boosters for your senses. They will help you relax your mind and body. If essential oils is not your cup of tea, then burn some aromatherapy candles or incenses.

Clean, clean and fresh:

One of the best ways to get rid of your stress and energize yourself is through a heavenly shower. Select shower gels with scents like peppermint, jasmine or tea tree and indulge in an invigorating shower every day. Nothing works better than a shower as an instant pick-me-up.

Get powerful with power naps:

I realized the power of power naps postpartum. The trick is not to go off deep into sleep, but to doze off for about half hour. Power naps will act as energy boosters as opposed to going off into deep sleep and being woken up suddenly mid-way – that will just leave you grumpy.

Above all these instant pick-me-ups, are things you need to do to keep your mental peace and happiness steady. Some things are so subtle that you may not even know you are doing it, yet it is draining you of your energy.

  • Learn to say NO. Yes, you already have enough on your plate and if there’s something you don’t want to do, or someone you don’t wish to see, then simply say no. Nothing’s more draining than doing things you do not want to do.
  • Be nice and good to yourself. You are doing the best you can, don’t be harsh on yourself.
  • Don’t set incredulous expectations for yourself. The more you try to control, the more everything will go out of hand. Learn to take each day as it comes.
  • Engage a domestic help or a nanny, if you are OK with it. This will prove to be of great help to you.
