Breastfeeding mamas in our part of the world are strictly told not to drink anything cool as long as they’re breastfeeding, lest they pass on the ‘cold’ to the baby. This is a purely preventive precaution that's taken, but, prevention is better than cure, right? So, in the light of not taking any risks, we just avoid cold food for at least six months, while we are exclusively breastfeeding.
This, however, is so difficult, especially for mamas like me, who are nursing during the summer. By the time I had reached the third month of nursing, I was ready to give up and indulge into some cold cold ice cream or a tall glass of any cool summer drink. The only thing that stopped me was the Covid-19 pandemic. Yeah, I was a new mommy in the midst of a viral pandemic and I did not want to do anything that could risk me or the baby catching a cold or falling sick.
The need to stay cool made me search frantically for the next best option, and that is when I came across this amazing yoghurt based drink. It was refreshing cool and yummy and even though, I did not consume the cold version of it, it nevertheless was smashing!
And, it’s extremely easy to prepare, so it’s the perfect drink for new mommies, who are still trying to figure out how to fit in everything within the measly 24 hours that they get every day.
Without further ado, here’s the recipe.
A simple 3 ingredient recipe using mint, cucumber and yoghurt.
Fun fact about yoghurt:
Add everything together and blend them well
Adjust the water quantity, depending on how thin or thick you would like the drink to be.
Taste and serve!
This drink will help cool down the body and the yoghurt provides our body with essential probiotics, which many new mamas will need if they are dealing with yeast infections. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and mint can help relieve indigestion, and can also help reduce breastfeeding pains.
